Alma Cook

Alma Cook is a pop/soul singer-storyteller based in Williston, North Dakota. Her songs deftly combine memorable melodies, contagious beats, and accessible lyrics to produce a style that appeals to listeners all around the world.

COURTSHIP

Courtship is her EP, a two-song album (+1 acoustic version), released in 2019.
The album is about relationships, from the perspective of a woman tired of a miserable relationship. It’s portrayed through imagery of king and queen (just like the songs title).

Cards As Metaphor

The idea is that the king is a fraud / a joker. That’s why I used playing cards as a metaphor. There’s an element of “why does this always happen to me?”—though self-pity isn’t the thesis. The idea is that the queen is tired of things like this happening, but she’ll be okay. As if to show showing how the king is out of his league.
